A mass resurgence in economic development has positioned Highland as one of the fastest growing communities in the area with a booming business community and lot of public resources.

 While 2008 brought disaster to Highland with an F-4 tornado that destroyed homes and numerous businesses, 2010 is bringing growth and prosperity.

A full-time police depart­ment and the volunteer fire department keep the community safe. The fire department recently finished construction on a new fire station that allows for quicker response to emergencies due to its central location and upgrades.

A pride of the City of Highland is its school district, one of the highest rated school districts in north central Arkansas. Highland Schools provide an excel­lent education for area youth.

Bordering the 13,440 acre Harold E. Alexander Wild­life Management Area, the city of Highland provides outdoor enthusiasts with one of the finest venues for hunting, hiking, wildlife photography, and basic camping to be found.
